Jena Osman's Public Figures is a since, book-length essay-poem about statues, mainly those of 19th century military figures. In the collection, Osman poses the question: what are these military statues looking at? How does their perspective differ from our own? From other, larger perspectives? How do these monuments transform our history? To answer these questions, Osman utilizes photographs (mainly pictures taken both of and from the perspective of the statues). Additionally, the collection utilizes various nonfiction sources (essays, news articles) and many pages includes text transcribed from videos of drones on YouTube
Photo credit, when using outside sources, is provided next to photos. Other photo credits and sources are listed at the end of the collection. Quotations are denoted through block quote formatting.
