Lethal Theater by Susannah Nevison

Susannah Nevison's Lethal Theater is an examination of the prison system, focusing on dangerous practices around medicine, punishment, isolation, experimentation, and interrogation. It also examines those involved, both directly and indirectly, in the creation of this system.

Lethal Theater is broken into three sections. While the first two contain a variety of poem styles and structures the final section, "Lethal Theater," is a longer piece broken into subsections with witness accounts and protocols interspersed into the poetry.

Nevison presents quotes material in italics and in a "Notes" section at the end of the collection. She sources information from photographs, an ACLU report, a nursery rhymes, the Bible, and interviews with journalists. Nevison also draws on personal experiences for some of her pieces.
