Angel Bones by
Ilyse Kusnetz is a collection of poems that explore the delicate balance
between life and death as the author, Kusnetz, is experience the last phase of
her life with cancer.
In poems such as “Bivalves Feeding at New Swyrna Beach,”
Kusnetz makes beautiful observations about nature in an attempt to understand,
connect, or to bring in her new perspectives about the impermanence of life.
Kusnet plays with form throughout the book; in some poems
using prose and in others using spacing to emphasize phrases. This can be seen
in poems such at “The Explosion Museum” and “Harbinger,” but despite these
differences, Kusnetz reminds us that through death, there is a connectedness
that all life shares; good or bad.
